Common questions
What is an AI visibility checker?
A tool that asks real AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) the kind of question your customers ask, like "who's the best plumber near me", and reports whether your business gets named or a competitor does.
Is this checker really free?
Yes. One check is free with no signup, no credit card, and no trial clock. You get an honest result page you can share. Ongoing weekly tracking and the done-for-you fixes are what our paid service adds.
Why does AI visibility matter for a local service business?
45% of consumers used an AI tool to find a local business in the past year, per BrightLocal's 2026 consumer survey, and an index of 350,000 US locations found ChatGPT recommends roughly 1 in 100 local businesses. If AI doesn't name you, it is naming someone else.
Do Google AI Overviews show up for local service searches?
Yes, and increasingly so. Google AI Overviews now appear on a wide range of local service searches, not just "best [trade] near me" but informational queries like "how to choose an HVAC contractor" or "signs I need a new roof." Google's AI summaries pull from your Google Business Profile, your review count and rating, and your website content. An incomplete Business Profile, inconsistent name and address, or sparse website content keeps you out of those summaries and the traditional local results at the same time. The signals that help Google AI Overviews are the same signals that help ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
How do I improve my odds of being recommended by ChatGPT?
The levers with real evidence behind them: strong recent reviews, an accurate and complete Google Business Profile, consistent name/address/phone across the listings AI reads (Yelp, Bing Places, Foursquare and others), and genuinely useful pages on your own site that answer customer questions. We do that work for clients; the checker shows you where you stand first. Improvement is about odds, never a guarantee.
Which AI engines does the check cover?
The free check asks a live, web-grounded AI engine the questions a customer would ask, and shows you the answer it actually gave. It is one engine per check, not a survey of all of them, so treat it as a real sample rather than a full picture. Client measurement is broader: there we ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok on a schedule and report each engine separately.
Does my business need to rank well on Google to show up in AI answers?
No. Ahrefs data published in July 2026 found that only 38% of Google AI Overview citations come from pages in Google's top ten organic results. The other 62% are pages the AI selected independently of their traditional rank. AI engines look for well-documented, well-reviewed, consistently listed businesses, not necessarily top-ranked ones, which makes this a real opening for a business that has not yet won a top organic position.
Does adding an llms.txt file help my business appear in Google AI Overviews?
No. Google has confirmed that its search systems, including AI Overviews, do not read llms.txt. Plenty of guides still tell local businesses to add one for that reason, and for Google it will not move anything. What does matter is your Google Business Profile completeness, your review count and rating, and whether your own pages actually answer customer questions. We will not tell you a single file is a shortcut, because the evidence does not support it.
